Luke 4

Luke
Demons & Mother In-Laws

One of the things that is interesting about Jesus ministry is how He is inundated with both the extraordinary and the mundane. Casting out demons left and right and in the middle of it is Peter’s Mother in law who has a fever. Jesus can deal with any problem we may have, large or small.

Luke 4

Luke
Galilee Ministry

The bulk of Jesus ministry happens either in Galilee or in Jerusalem. Galilee is the blue-collar area of Israel with fishing and farming being the primary industries. Jesus is embraced by the masses, probably because He looked and talked like them, but it quickly became apparent that He could provide for them as well.

Luke
Jesus' Temptation

We are reminded in Hebrews that we have a High Priest who was tempted as we are, yet without sin. While the gospels record 3 different ways Satan tempted Jesus, He was always aware of the pitfalls that surrounded Him and always deftly dealt with them.

Luke
The Birth of Jesus Foretold

One of the reoccurring themes of Luke is an elevation of those considered “2nd class” in society. Instead of Zacharias and the priests being blessed by the good news of a coming Savior, it is two women, one old and one unmarried who know what is coming.

How Do We Express Being Thankful?

Is saying “thank you” enough to be considered a thankful person? Is saying a brief prayer before a meal enough to be called thankful? Is sending out an occasional thank you card for a received gift enough? How do we embrace the idea of being so full of thanks that someone would describe us as being thankful?

Pastor Phil Perry

For What Should We Be Thankful?

It is much easier to give thanks to God for good things or positive answers to our prayers. The command is given to us though to be thankful in all things. How can we be thankful for those things we perceive to be painful or difficult? Does God expect us to be grateful for loss and hurt? How can we genuinely thank God for all things?
