Luke 8

Luke
Kingdom Parable: Lamp

Light reveals what was there the whole time, but just having light doesn’t mean it is always seen. Jesus own family failed to understand the nature and mission of Jesus.

Luke 8

Luke
Kingdom Parable: Seed/Sower

Jesus routinely used common objects to illustrate kingdom truths. These stories, called parables, were meant to impart truth to an audience while also hiding truth from others. The parable of the sower would have been more readily understood by the Galileans than from the cities.

Luke 7

Luke
Sinful Women

When we understand how great a debt we owed because of our sin, we can appreciate the depth of forgiveness we find in Jesus. Too often though our religion gets in the way and we fail to see how indebted we really are.

Luke
John the Baptist Part 2

Centurion's Slave

Once again, we see Luke sharing a part of Jesus’ ministry to an outsider to the nation of Israel and a woman. Jesus did not just come to rescue Israel from her sins but also the whole world!

Luke
Sabbath Issues

From the time of Nehemiah, about 450 years before, the religious leaders have developed a fanatical approach to keeping the Sabbath. They built walls and then fences around the walls. Jesus came in like a bulldozer to destroy the traditions and it infuriated them to no end.

Easter
A True Look At Ourselves

What is the meaning of Easter? Do a google search and you will be both amazed and disheartened at the news articles posted about Easter. It is perhaps better to call it Resurrection Sunday, some make a big deal over the words we choose, but we can understand that Easter and Resurrection Sunday are the same day. But what is this day all about?

Luke 5

Luke
Matthew

Jesus routinely reaches out to the social outcasts; Matthew is a wealthy one. Nothing is new under the son, no one likes the tax collector then or today. Jesus calls him, and us, to a new life.

Luke 5

Luke
Cleansing and Healing

The disease of Leprosy was pernicious and pervasive in the 1st Century. What was also pervasive is the opposition to healing that Jesus finds in the religious leaders. It almost seems that they would rather see people suffer than find relief. The crowds though are thrilled at Jesus’ miracles.

Luke 5

Luke
Fishers of Men

Jesus’ most faithful followers are gathered from the salt of the Earth men who would not have a shot at rabbinical training. As someone once said: “He doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.”

Luke 4

Luke
Demons & Mother In-Laws

One of the things that is interesting about Jesus ministry is how He is inundated with both the extraordinary and the mundane. Casting out demons left and right and in the middle of it is Peter’s Mother in law who has a fever. Jesus can deal with any problem we may have, large or small.

Luke 4

Luke
Galilee Ministry

The bulk of Jesus ministry happens either in Galilee or in Jerusalem. Galilee is the blue-collar area of Israel with fishing and farming being the primary industries. Jesus is embraced by the masses, probably because He looked and talked like them, but it quickly became apparent that He could provide for them as well.

Luke 4

Luke
Jesus' Temptation

We are reminded in Hebrews that we have a High Priest who was tempted as we are, yet without sin. While the gospels record 3 different ways Satan tempted Jesus, He was always aware of the pitfalls that surrounded Him and always deftly dealt with them.
